Is it worth the money. I'm thinking of getting it. Does it tell you where you can buy some of the resources? Does it come with some resources? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
yes I think its worth the cost, when I look at it I get new ideas. yes they also cover things like. character design, joints, rods, materials, glossary of terms, and a lot of products & Suppliers. they show you tools you can use, drifferent covering you can use etc. I think it was worth it. You can also look at a sample of the book on amazon.com books they show some of the pages and let you look at the intro.

I think that any book on puppet building that you can afford to get is well worth the investment. Even some of mine that are very simple concepts and designs have a couple things in them that can be applied to even advanced building.

Many have purchased "The Foam Book" and found it very helpfull. I don't think you can go wrong with it. The authors of the book are well know and experianced puppeteers and builders.

I think this book is great, and I also like the companion video(s). Many years ago Gray Seal put out a book called The Wit and Wisdom of Polyfoam Puppet Construction, which I found to be a whole lot more wit than wisdom. But The Foam Book is a different matter entirely.

The approach is simple without being simplistic. It describes things in enough detail that you have a very good place from which to start, but it is not so formulaic that you have no creative freedom. In fact it requires creativity of you.

The listing of manufacturers and suppliers in the back of the book is quite comprehensive, although I was able to find absolutely everything I needed locally.

As someone who had been out of puppet construction for some time, it was The Foam Book that got me started again. Personally I recommend it highly.

Great Book especially if you're just breaking into puppet building. It doesn't have patterns but it a definitely valuable resource. Between The Foam Book, Puppet Mania and this forum, you're well on your way!
