I couldn't have said it better myself. Even though I wasn't born until 2001, my favorite era of SS has to be the mid 80's to the mid 90's.
That's the era that's most special to me as well, however, being born at the tail-end of the 80s, and more critical years being in the early 90s, of course that was the era of SS I was experiencing: the early 90s being what was on PBS at the time, while the mid and late 80s were via those My Sesame Street Home Video tapes.

Other than that, I have a really soft spot for Season 30, because to me, that's when SS felt like it was "reborn." I was finally starting to "grow out" of SS during Season 31, but thanks to the A&E special, I was brought back toward the end of Season 32 and have been back in ever since.

The 90s animated inserts were the best. Sally Cruikshank, Ken Brown and Lisa Crafts (F for Faces and AT especially), Karen Aqua, Merril Aldigheri, Rose Rosely, John R. Dilworth, John Mohiynan and Mort Todd, Jane Aaron, Mo Willems, Craig Bartlett, Buzzco Associates (following their 80s work), Klasky-Csupo, artistMike, and William Wegman made great inserts.
I forgot to mention Joey Ahlbum and Will Vinton Studios.
