Good compromise. It's good to see everything is working out.

I know when my wife and I were engaged, we did the traveling holiday. We actually did it even the first year we were married and when the first kid arrived. After that, it's just too hard on the kids (have 2 now.) So we hosted Christmas at our house last year. If you want to see your Grandson at Christmas, you need to come over to our house (my second was born in July of this year, so we'll see what happens now.) It's a part of growing up. Becoming a family on our own while still keeping in contact with the family we left. A nice balancing act.

It gets better.

Excellent.

It does get better. After your own kids, especially, the travel thing does get tougher and much less fun. As you go along over time you'll find yourselves creating your own traditions, too, which is nice. Happy Holidays to you and your fiance.

I know how you feel-Sort of. My sister just got married this past May, and it'll be our first Christmas w/o her. I love my brother-in-law, and I think he has a very nice family, but his parents are the kind to raise a big stink if they don't think everything's EXACTLY EVEN. It doesn't really matter much to us, but we REALLY hate walking on eggshells all the time...(We almost didn't have a wedding due to the fact that my parents attended a party his didn't, and they felt like they were being excluded.) Because of this I'm kind of worried about Christmas this year, because I REALY don't want their first Christmas together to be ruined like their wedding almost was.
Sounds like your parents and his parents are pretty reasonable, though.
