Seriously though, that is one awesome idea, it would be neat to see what would happen if someone actually DID put this together in their yard!

Heh... You could just line the holes in the back of the trashcan to minimize any possible infections or tetnis shots incurred from frequent puppeteering.

And it's a barrel that supports Oscar's trashcan? Thought it was more along the lines of a pair of old boxlike crates. Good thing I have classic episodes for added reference as well.

Well, it's a barrel that supports Oscar's trash can in the later SESAME episodes (1974 - present day), but yes, you could use a bunch of old crates, since that's what was the case for the early seasons.

I forgot that you might need some cement to create a faux sidewalk.

And a trip to the auto junkyard for a tire and some rope for a tire swing.

Yeah... A full-scaled SS replica set would be pretty sweet... But it's kind of cool to keep it in our memories for when we need that little touch of SS nostalgia. BTW: How much would it cost to get some figure customizer/sculpter/painter to work on something in scale for the figures? Just askin'.

WHOA! am i late or what?... you know... i built a Bruno and Oscar costume a couple years back... i went to Lowes and bought a trash can for $10-$15... i can't remember exactly... but it was either of the two. I too saw that site when i was shopping and said... NO!... ok i said other things but lets keep it G rated

Lowes, Home Depot... check out stores like them first. I havn't gotten around to it myself but i'm planning on taking apart parts of the costume and using just Oscar as a "replica" showcase thing... or as a puppet to share with kids where i work... (i work at a chrildren shelter)

You just need a drill that cuts through metal to screw in the screws for the hinge. You should also expect the lid to not close perfectly once the hinge is on (just like on the show) because the hinge will cause the lid to be skewed and not square with the opening of the trash can.


Also...

You'll probably need to cut a hole in the back of the trash can so that you can fit your arms in (just like Carroll Spinney) to operate your Oscar puppet. Just be careful to have plenty of bactine handy for the cuts you'll be getting scraping your skin against the edges of the trash can!

And there's one thing I've always wondered about: is the trashcan they've used for Oscar a real trashcan and not fake?
