I was wondering if anybody could give me their opinions on the following Sesame Street videos, and say what is good and what is bad about them:
I'm Glad I'm Me
getting ready For School (and what sketches are on there?)
We All Sing Together
Sing-Along earth Songs (and what is the plot about?)
Telling The Truth (and what sketches are included?)
Big Bird gets Lost (and are any sketches included?)
The Great Alphabet Game
123 Count With Me

any information would be appreciated.

Great Idea

I have thought that a thread like this would be very helpful to the parents on the boards who are considering purchasing SESAME DVDs for their children.

I do not own any of the above mentioned titles, so can not comment on their quality. However, if anyone does own them...please note if there are any "Classic Sesame" clips included.

Many thanks!

Although I haven't seen them, I do know the contents of some of them.

I know that I'm Glad I'm Me has Being Green (the late-1970s version), Me Gotta be Blue, Climbing a Boy, Making a face, Kermits hand lecture, a sketch where Ernie doesn't think he is special, The Ankle, The Shoulder, and The Knee, and the sketch where kermit x-rays Herry Monster.

We All Sing Together has Skin, I Want To Be Me, Know Matter What, One Thousand faces, Mommy and Me, Different yet The same, and We All Sing With The Same Voice. I don't know what most of those skits are about (can anybody tell me?).

Sing-Along Earth Songs has The Wasteroon Song, Ev'ry Bit Of Litter Hurts, Air (is this the one with Guy Smiley or Bip Bipodotta?), On My Pond, Oscars Junk Band, Little Plant, What a Gift, Keep The Park Clean for The Pigeons, and Box City recycling rap. I don;t know what most of those skits are about (can anybody tell me?)

I don't know what you consider classic, but if you consider anything from before Jim Hensosn death as classic, then all skits on I'm Glad I'm Me and getting ready For School are classics.

Are there any specific videos (besides what I asked about) that you want to know about the amount of classic segments?

I've seen 123 Count With Me and I know that Ernie shows up at the Furry Arms Hotel and does some counting with Benny the Bunny (almost called him Bean! ) and Humphrey, Ingrid and Natasha are there too. I think the Count might have shown up too and I don't remember there being any cool classic sketches or songs. But it's been a while since I saw it.

I just recently saw "I'm Glad I'm Me" and it's totally worth getting it. It's filled with tons of classic clips, including three Kermit sketches and songs!!!!!! (which for me, being a big fan of Kermit's appearances on Sesame Street, make it really awesome) The sketches already listed are accurate. I can't remember any more right at the moment.

The Great Alphabet Game (if this is the one I'm thinking of) has Big Bird, Gary Grouch, and Dimples the Dog playing a Sunny Friendly game show where they have to find stuff that begins with a certain letter. It's got lots of great letter sketches and songs, like the entire alphabet sung with that really pretty music and A-Z transforming into each other. (it's a cartoon) Also, Kermit sings the entire alphabet (this is not the one with Ladysmith Black Mambazo) This one ends with "And now my alphabet's complete in the swamp. Ribbit Ribbit"

I've got "Getting Ready for School" and it's great! Lots of good clips on here, especially the many presentations of the alphabet! (It gets mentioned a lot) I can't remember the others right now, but I've got the video at home. I'll have to watch it again to see.

And I'm pretty sure all the items listed on the "We All Sing Together" are all songs. "Skin" is a live action video that shows a bunch of kids at the beach, accompanied by the song. "Skin, covered all over with skin...etc." And "We All Sing With the Same Voice" is a classic!!!!! I love that song. I especially remember loving to see this one as a child. It mainly shows a bunch of kids playing together, swinging on tire swings, etc. "We All Sing With the Same Voice, the Same Voice, the Same Voice. We All Sing with the same voice and we sing in harmony!".....

They're all great videos. You really can't wrong with any Sesame Street video. You never know what great classic sketches and songs might be on there!

Getting Ready for School has a 1970 Cookie Monster sketch where he learns how to read the word "SCHOOL" as well as an 80's EXIT cartoon.

Big Bird Gets Lost has NO sketches. It's just Big Bird and Maria from the late 80's early 90's.

If you want classic sketches, I highly, highly, highly recommend LEARNING ABOUT LETTERS and LEARNING ABOUT NUMBERS - lots of 1970's sketches there - can't recommend them enough.

Actually, I meant "the alphabet Jungle game". The one you were describing is The Alphabet Game. sorry for the confusion.

Which alphabet songs are included? does it have the one where kermit and a girl recite the alphabet (where the girl keeps saying "Cookie Monster")? or the one where herry tells grover a secret (which is the alphabet)? do any kermit skits appear on there (I think that the sesame street news sketch where kermit witnesses the first day of school in history would be a good one to have included, as would the news sketches for the school of huffing and puffing, and the kindergarden class one)?

yes, I know they are all songs. This was originally released as part of a series of videos known as Sesame Songs, where all skits on the vidoes were songs. Other videos in that collection were sing yourself silly, monster hits, rock & roll, dance along, sing, hoot & howl, elmos sing-along guessing game, and sing-along earth songs.

besides these, I would also recommend Getting Ready For School, Play-Along games and Songs, Sing-Along (althouhg three of the four skits on that video are also availible on other videos), the best of ernie and bert, learning to add and subtract, sing yourself silly, monster hits, and Rock & Roll.

well, does anybody else have any more info to give me? am sure that some people on these boards have seen most of these videos. of course, I am wanting to know how good the videos are in terms of old sketches and obscure characters. I am greatful of the information that I did get, but I want to know more.

Are most of the sketches on We All Sing Together filmed skits with real kids? What are the songs on Sing-Along earth Songs about? What is the plot of Sing-Along Earth Songs?
