How does Beaker work?!

So some people have told me Beaker has a "drawbridge mouth", but I don't know what the heck that is, and how is the telescopic head thingy achieved?

I am thinking they are referring to, say, the image of a castle with a moat, with the bridge vertical against the gate but lowers down on a bottom hinge. Instead of opening and closing like a clam, it opens and closes like a drawbridge.

There also appears to be more than one Beaker. There's the standard one that may or may not telescope (you only need to have the neck and head be separate from the body to get that to work) and then there's one where there's nothing inside so you can do the funny deflating look.
