How did they film Muppet Show audience shots?

I wonder if it was done the same way the wedding scene was filmed in MTM?

They actually talked about this in an issue of The Muppet Show Fan Club Newsletter.

There's about seven different shots matted together - they taped a section of the screen at one time and put them together ... with quite a few of the puppets redressed and used more than once.

Are any/all of The Muppet Show Fan Club Newsletter issues available online now?

I suspected this was the case. So technically a proper Muppet Auditorium set never really existed?

I noticed it changes appearance in different episodes.
