Although, I have heard that some kids were afraid of Barkley, which is kind of understandable. So that could be why he was phased out, or maybe not.

No, you're misreading it. Hoots is mentioned as previously performing with Wynton Marsalis on the show. Marsalis is performing at the concert, so they just threw in some history.

Then they should have watched the Steve Harvey show last year where Fred Gabro who played him for a time made an appearance, then they would have seen that he's not that scary. :smile:
