I just noticed something.

On the Herry Monster Magic Slate thing, Herry says "If you make a mess, make it DISAPPEAR! Ya." And in this story I read as a kid where Herry Monster looses a huge burlap sack full of his weight-lifting equipment (the others thought it was laundry, and this story was illustrated by Tom Cooke, since Herry had the purple pants with orange spots) and in the end he says "I practice with my barbells and dumbbells every day. Ya."

Was this "Ya" thing supposed to be a catchphrase or trademark of sorts for Herry? It sort of reminds me of the Count's "Ah-ha-ha-ha," but probably since Jerry Nelson performs both the Count and Herry. I didn't hear Herry say "Ya" in any skits I know. Can someone help me?

You're on to something, Muppet Dude! I do remember one more example of Herry saying "ya." It's in the "Sesame Street cook book" from the early 1980s, I think. A cartoon Herry is telling Guy Smiley how many people a certain dish will serve. Herry replies something like, "This will serve one. Ya."

I don't recall him saying it in any skits, either. Although I do seem to remember him saying "yeah" at one point. Maybe the "ya" is just short for the "yeah" pronunciation.
