One thing I've always wondered, even as a kid, was with Ernie having a big, red, round nose, if anyone out there ever wondered if or thought Ernie was clown?

Just curious.

Yep! In between his personality and his natural "clown nose", the similarities between Ernie and a clown weren't lost on me - sometimes i even figured that's what he would be when he grew up!

...and hey, he even "honked" his nose at the end of the Four People Fooled skecth (even though he was the straight man)

Oddly enough, I have an action figure of Ernie as a clown! It's kind of weird. I got it when I was little! I still have it... It's fun to look at.

Come to think of it, Lew Zealand pretty much looks like as if Ernie *did* grow up to become a clown.

I never saw him as clownlike when I was a girl, though it makes sense when you mention all the details adding up: clownish face, love of silly games and pranks, strange logic, general disregard for "the rules". Not to mention that trademark laugh that drove my Mom crazy when I tried to imitate it! :stick_out_tongue:
