You made an error, Kimp it should be 3.1415.... you probably keyed in 22/7 instead of the symbol pi. Anyway now that pi day is over I thought you might all like to know a way to figure out the area of a circle without using pi.
1. Draw a circle
2. Cut your circle into eighths
3. Rearrange the eighths to form a rectangle (your rectangle might be little lumpy and bumpy, but it should work)
4. Measure the width or short side of your rectangle (this is the same as the radius of the circle)
5. Multiply this by twice the length or long side of the rectangle (this is the same as the circumference of the circle)
6. You now have the area of the circle. So the formula is essentially A = r(C)
Try it out and compare it to pi (r)^2.
