Yes, happy late 4th!

Today was a washout (literally). A yucky, gray rainy day.

It's still pouring now, but the firecrackers/noisemakers are still going strong!

I was able to see an ABC 1982 special called I Love Liberty recently. Big Bird and The Muppets made an appearance in the special, putting on a raucous version of the play 1776! They were there to demonstrate how the founding of our country was frought with turmoil and disagreements, but somehow they still managed to come together to form the Declaration of Independance.

There was also a speech made early in the show (I wasn't sure who the actor was who said it, but obviously a well known person). Basically he said part of what makes liberty great is our ability to have open minds and see all points of view (something that both liberals and conservatives need a lesson in btw! Heh). Also the teachings of a man from 2000 years ago, who said the least will be counted among the greatest.

I have to say, while the special was definitely corny, it was also very touching.

Here's the Muppet Wiki description, featuring some of Martin Sheen's exchange with Big Bird and the Muppets' version of 1776!

Don't want to get into political opinions here, but it seems like we're living in a are side, their side society anymore. It's ra-ra our team just because their "my" side. It just doesn't seem like good reasoning. You don't even need a reason except for the fact that's it's "your" side.

Yup, and what people don't realize is, when you're so clearly sold into one way of thinking, your opinion isn't as reliable. No matter what the issue, you're always going to be on the same side. We're all guilty of this sometimes.

That true about everyone being guilty of that sometime or the other. And your right, when it starts to become that, your opinions really start to have on merit and are just hard to even want to take seriously anymore. It's like a bad case of stubborness, heh!
