They must have done that so it would make more sense to video owners (though I think it's shown on TV airings, too). However, the original scene is on DVD.

The novelization also changes the scene in which one of the Gremlins locks the author in a room and takes over the story the way Gremlins know how.

One fan even made an alternate scene for DVD, using replicas of the puppets and everything! Now that's impressive!
