I remember when Pacman hit arcades, but it was Ms Pacman that really seemed to be the rage near me. My parents thought Empire was too intense to be taking a 2 year
old too. However, I got to see Return of the Jedi in theaters when it first came out, which was beyond amazing(its to this day my favorite star wars film)
People often are shocked when I talk about this or seeing ET opening weekend, since apparently I look and seem very young. Most people think Im 20-22ish.
As much as I like that period, its the mid and especially late 80's(1987-1989) where my absolute fondest memories lie.

I'm terrible at all modern video games (Rock Band, DDR, anything on Wii etc.) but I love Pacman and Space Invaders and Tetris and the like. So what if they're 30 years old? As for Empire I saw it when I was home sick from school when I was pretty young-- Darth Vader scared the bjeezes out of me.

Ive grown to HATE modern video games. Its all 3d stuff, and war games/generic sandbox 3rd perspective/rhythm/driving/sports games and the same generic 3d zelda/mario games. yawn.

I like indie games tho. But for me retro and 2d is where it's at(I love the GBA and DS tho)

Wow, this takes me back. I was in high school in the '80s, and I was a Pac-fan. Had the cards and stickers and stuff, drew the characters, even made dolls of the characters. I never could play Pac-Man worth a flip; I kept getting surrounded in the two loop st the bottom of the maze. However, I could (and still can) kick butt in Ms. Pac-Man.

I wish I could have gotten Pac-Man Jr. and Super Pac-Man on any of my home systems. I loved those games. In fact, I even forgave them for that Frankenstein mishmash called "Baby Pac-Man" after playing Pac-Man Jr.

As for the cartoons... well, I watched 'em, what the hey. And I hated Mezmaron. I thought of him as a cross between Darth Vader and a conehead. Blarg. Do the Ghost Monsters really need a boss - a humanoid one at that? Even half asleep I thought that was lame.

For some reason I thought you were way younger, trippy! I wasn't in high school til the early 90's, but for theater in 6th grade I'd go to the local high school every day for rehearsal in the auditorium. It was funny, I remember the new wave/mod high schoolers dug me. I so wish I could have gone to high school in the 80's...I wanna be in a real life John Hughes film!

I even forgave them for that Frankenstein mishmash called "Baby Pac-Man" after playing Pac-Man Jr.

I must say, though the look and concept of the Baby Pac-Man game is cool, they made it way too difficult. The ghosts all come out right away, and you don't see any energizers (or power pellets) so you have to just run into the pinball area, but when you lose the ball down there, you return to the game portion to discover that the exits into the pinball part are closed off! Once you die in the game though, the exits are open when you begin your next life. It's too tough, is the point. But it's so rare, that when you see it, you just gotta play it

While I wouldnt say I hate modern video games, I agree that about 95% of the market is saturated with generic war based FPS, sports games, driving...I hate Zelda. The only game I ever played close to completion was Oracle of Seasons. I tried playing Ocarina of Time and HAD to put it down within 10 minutes of starting it. I hated the wonky control scheme, camera, slow talking...pretty much everything about it. I just dont get the big obsession with anything Mario. I'm not a huge fan.

But then you have those great, obscure games that were overshadowed by the generic crap.

I'd rather spend hours playing Atari games. SeaQuest alone is enough to keep me entertained

I like 2d classic type zelda like on the nes, snes, gbc and gba. Havent played those in awhile. Again, I love 2d Mario games, not so much the 3d stuff. Ever since N64 I havent been a fan of "3d" for a lot of Nintendo type stuff as it just feels off control wise. Tho, I will say I do get a rush sometimes playing 3d sonic games. I think theyve done a good job with those. I just sadly have not been too big of a gamer as I used to be. Lack of interest, money, interesting titles, etc

Oh yeah, there's definitely a lack of new games coming out that remotely interest me. The only games on my wishlist this Christmas are Sonic Generations and Rayman Origins.

And finally someone else who thinks Ninteno needs to work on their controls. Everyone praises the Gamecube controller, but I hate it. I forget the Z button even exists half the time, the trigger buttons are huge and take way to long to press, especially when you need to press them multiple times fast. And don't get me started on the N64 controller. That thing is a mess.

Of course, I've had my PS3 for a little less than a year (got it last Christmas). I only have 5 games and I only play like 2 of them :/

The GC controller was a mess. I do consider the GC the spiritual successor of sorts to the Dreamcast, as it had similar colors/themes/titles as the Dreamcast(which had a lot of party type games) I never got the appeal of the PS3. I can see the appeal of the 360 given the graphics, the multiplayer heavy games, and the mix of kid friendly and darker titles. When I think Ps3 I just think solo M rated sandbox games.

The only modern system Im into is the 2008 DS...as it sports a nice design, plays GBA games and takes a flash card. And I love the GBA with its SNES like graphics
Im just thankful SNES inspired 2d games still exist, again thanks to the DS. I'll be sad when everything is 3d. (havent gotten into the 3ds yet)

I wish you were older, as there was something magical about not just the arcades of yore but also the home gaming of the time

As of now, I don't have high speed internet. I still have *gasp* dial up. So, when my parents gave me the option of either or, I figured the PS3, since there are more solo offline games. To really enjoy the Xbox you need a good internet connection and to be rich enough to afford Xbox live. I'd rather play a sandbox game over a copy and paste shooter any day. But really, the PS3 pretty much has the same exact games with the exception of a few exclusives. Its just that most people opt for more solid online play, and from what I understand Sony's isnt that good...

My DS works perfectly fine, so I see no reason in getting a 3DS. The lack of GBA support and even games that interest me are turn offs.

Even though I didn't grow up with any of the really old systems, I do love playing old games. I have the Activision Anthology disk for PS2. Its probably one of my most played disks. I guess its the closest to playing them at home without buying an Atari. Of course, we need not talk about whats on my computer

I know of a shop that specializes in selling old game systems and arcade machines. I haven't been there yet, but I want to check it out. Although if I brought home an Atari I think my mom would kill me.

It's interesting. While I can access virtually any old video game for any system or arcade ever made within seconds, there's something fun about the "click" of popping in an actual cartridge into a SNES or Genesis and playing it on a tv. Playing emulated games just lacks something, even with the right controllers. I remember having an atari that was given to me, but really was not too thrilled with the primitive graphics...especially since I was used to arcades. Plus the controller was so primitive as well. I loved the NES when I finally got one, but SNES is probably my all time favorite. Strangely, or not so strangely, I seem to always have gotten systems a few years after they come out(part of the fun of being raised poor) Tho if I had been some rich kid with everything handed to em, I probably wouldnt have had as much of an appreciation. Im glad theyve put Genesis, SNES, etc compilations on modern systems.

Oh gosh, Id love to someday own an actual arcade machine. There's this house near me where this guy(from when he briefly had his garage door open and what I could see) has all my favorite arcade games from the 80s and 90s.

Wait...ds...dslite....3ds...im missing one. Oh yeah, the dsi. wow, they sure didnt support that one too long! It was like it came out, but then all the hype was focused toward the 3ds. No gba? No thanks. But the worst? The PSP Go which has no game support, you have to download all the games. Yeah that was a real winning concept
