One of the elder statesmen of puppetry has died. George Latshaw passed away yesterday in a Florida hospital.

Even if you do not know his name, you've unknowingly felt his tremendous impact on the development of puppetry in the United States. He inspired and mentored hundreds of puppeteers and is well-known for his book The Complete Book of Puppetry, which if you haven't read already is a must-real puppetry book. He also founded the PofA's magazine the Puppetry Journal and served as it's editor for almost 20 years.

I posted a brief notice about his death on PuppetVision and will be collecting and posting links to rememberences of him from the puppetry community as they appear on the web.

It's a very, very sad day for puppetry.

Very sad indeed. His Complete Book of Puppetry is without a doubt one of the most influential works I've ever read. Truly a complete curriculum on the subject and one of the most intelligent approaches to teaching the subject.

He will be greatly, greatly missed.
