Gasket Rubber

Does anyone here use Gasket Rubber for mouthplates?

Im Looking at getting some sheets off ebay to play around with. Can anyone recommend a thickness? Seems to come in 3mm or 5mm?

There are also black or red... Are these different types? Brands?

I had 3 mm first but it seemed to thick. Bought 2mm which was better but still quite stiff. Wonder if they do 1mm??
