Holy threadcromancing! I too love(pre cgi) Garfield:smile:

I remember every saturday morning I used to watch Gafield/US Acres, and before that the tv specials
Likewise, though, I actually have fond of the new CGI series, but Lorenzo Music was the boss. I miss him. </3

The CGI series is alright. Even though a couple occasions, Mark kinda reused some plot concepts from the old series... like the invasion of the lasagne creatures from outer space episode of the new series is similar to the (actually quite funnier) older episode about the invasion of the ventriloquist figures from outer space (which featured ventriloquist turned voice actor Paul Winchell). But there's something lost in translation, since the new one is actually French, and I wonder how much Mark actually writes.

It misses that very looney feel of the old series... episodes with titles like "The Creature that lived in the Refrigerator, behind the mayonnaise, next to the ketchup, and to the left of the cole slaw," plots about weird holidays where Roy smashes pies into Wade's face, and the characters complaining about the lousy parts they had in the episodes... I understand not continuing that sort of humor for something new... but some of the word play is gone. Still, I do dig the new series, from what I've seen of it.

But the old series was amazing. Garfield has always been better in animated form than comic strips. I especially love the backhanded episodes about 1980's cartoons (which did a beautiful mash up between He-Man and Transformers) and the similar, but just as wonderfully satirical stab at the then current X-Men series.

I'm lucky I got the last 2 box sets... the episodes they refused to show in syndication.

You got more love than I do...I refuse to watch anything Garfield in cgi form. I mean 9 Lives of Garfield? Such a classic...the new cgi stuff can't compare.

I really don't care for the CGI look at all. I especially dislike his mouth moving. But I gotta admit, the new show's pretty good. The second season's a little closer to the original series in its humor. I never did see any of the DTV movies. Saw some of the first one, though... it was pretty good. Still, I prefer entirely CGI over CGI pasted on live action.

Yeah, I cant bag on cgi kids shows toooo much...afterall, I LOVED Reboot and Ive seen all the episodes of the 2001 tv show Sitting Ducks.

But Im a huge fan of 2d traditional cartoons and specials made of comic strips.Opus And Bill A Wish For Wings That Work, Boondocks, Garfield, Peanuts, The Doonesbury Special from 1977, both the 1999-2000 Dilbert tv series and the new 30 second shorts, etc

Sucks there never was a Calvin and Hobbes or Get Fuzzy animated series or special. Other than the very edgy Boondocks, modern comic strips rarely get turned into animated series(Cept the online webcomic strip PvP)
