Gaffer the Cat on CATS?

While browsing a gallery of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, halfway down the page in the Broadway section of the gallery they have an actress putting on make-up with a very familiar cat on her lap. It's Gaffer from The Muppet Show! You know, the cat in the background stage right with an eyepatch over her eye. Can anyone explain to me how Gaffer ended up on the actress's lap? Was there ever a Gaffer doll released?

I'm pretty sure that that was from a Muppet Magazine spread that featured CATS.

I've seen that before and I'm almost positive that that is where that is from.

Well, I wouldn't call him a purely background character. He was featured in "The Cat Came Back" that Rowlf sang on the Muppet Show. Although I can't think of any other songs or sketches he was featured in.
