1) You don't pay actors outrageous salaries. If you offer a payoff at the end, you pay $1 million for the season and not that or more per episode.

2) More than enough people willing to make an a** of themselves for money or just to be on TV.

3) People keep watching.

4) Apparently we haven't run out of gross or "outrageous" things to eat.

5) No one has had an original idea since the fall of the Berlin wall.

The information now isn't funny, but it was the delivery of his offer to do so that was funny. One of those "you have to see it" deals.
