Okay, this is a bump, because I do love movies/musicals, ergo (how many times a day does one get to use the word "ergo"? It's an awesomely underused word. But I digress.) Movie-musicals are indeed THE BEST. Some I can find the Youtube clip for easily:

"I'd Do Anything" from Oliver (1968):here. It's just kind of adorable.

"Cellblock Tango" from Chicago (2003):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoCZEmfnE-M Epic.

"All For The Best" from Godspell (1973): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFD4Q7fodK8&feature=related I'm not even really Christian and I can quote half this movie. It's so sweet, and awesome, and wonderfully 70s. And, to be fair:

The OTHER Christian movie musical of the era, equally worth watching even as an agnostic... well, I prefer the remake, but the concept is old. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhwXgd5kVao&feature=PlayList&p=A1D2B3D8FF75EE94&playnext_from=PL&index=15

Um, it's the dentist song from Little Shop of Horrors, but I don't know if that's the *real* title... again, epic. Steve Martin! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOtMizMQ6oM

I think I should stop here, but you get the idea.

Yeah... and Heather Henson is in that one as a kid with mutant braces. Yeah... any Musical with the word "Horror" in the title is good for me... Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror... love that stuff.

As a Christian myself, I think both these films are pretty neat. I haven't seen Jesus Christ Superstar just yet- but I probably will eventually. I have seen Godspell though and found that interesting. It was one of those movie musicals where I didn't know if I should be laughing or offended or both.
Many of Jesus' parables and the Sermon on the Mount were pretty faithfully presented- but it was obviously not in a totally serious fashion either, so it's definitely not The Greatest Story Ever Told or the Jesus movie. (1979 movie- probably the best Passion play ever and one of the most if not the most widely seen movie all over the world.)
I will say though that I loved "Day By Day" from Godspell- great song and great lyrics! I just wish the movie had portrayed the Resurrection of Jesus more definitively. But anything that gets The Gospel of Christ out to more people is always good, so I'm glad for that.
I do love musicals and I will have to post some of my favorite clips here.:sing:

A little over the top with the holiday choices, but a pretty good list nonetheless.

I've never liked Kate Capshaw's rendition of Anything Goes (her voice is better suited to shrieking about snakes ), but this Indy musical number is beautifully shot. This is actually a rather brilliant song by the great Cole Porter - a man far ahead of his time. By reading between the lines it's easy to understand that society really hasn't changed much since this was written in 1934. It's just that things once hidden are now in the forefront. This is one of my absolute favorite songs and I once heard it sung live on Broadway by the great Patti LuPone. Here's her performance at that year's Tony Awards where the musical won. The real lyrics (and the most interesting part of the song):

Times have changed,
And we've often rewound the clock,
Since the Puritans got a shock,
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today,
Any shock they should try to stem,
'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.

In olden days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking,
But now, God knows,
Anything Goes.

Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four letter words
Writing prose, Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today,
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes

When grandmama whose age is eighty
In night clubs is getting matey with gigolo's,
Anything Goes.

When mothers pack and leave poor father
Because they decide they'd rather be tennis pros,
Anything Goes.

If driving fast cars you like,
If low bars you like,
If old hymns you like,
If bare limbs you like,
If Mae West you like
Or me undressed you like,
Why, nobody will oppose!
When every night,
The set that's smart
Is intruding in nudist parties in studios,
Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today,
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes

If saying your prayers you like,
If green pears you like
If old chairs you like,
If back stairs you like,
If love affairs you like
With young bears you like,
Why nobody will oppose!

And though I'm not a great romancer
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes...
Anything goes!

I agree, great list (I'd have listed Disney/Muppets too, but I think that's a given on this forum lol.) I guess it's up to the individual to place the line of reverence, I'm juuuust spritiual-ish enough that "On The Willows" reduces me to tears, but I also I love Life Of Brian. (hilarious and with some awesome "take that" type moments...) I don't think anything in musical form can be taken totally seriously anyway, they're just enjoyable.
