If anything, DVD's will become low end antiques, becuase they are rather plentiful.
But, Ilikeuppets & so should you. . . recommend relaxing to everyone then?

Blue Ray is just another type of DVD. just like Beta was another form of VHS. Beta never really did catch on to well in my demographic area.
That's why I'm so highly doubtable about Blue-ray disks. Just me perhaps. But didn't Sony came out with beta max to begin with?

I still own videotapes. Last summer, music stores such as Strawberries and Coconuts were selling their entire stock of VHS for $2.99 each. So I picked up several titles that aren't on DVD yet.

I use my VCR regularly. Don't have Tivo.

And I have a large vinyl collection. Some of them I bought in stores when they were still regularly available. Now, I'll purchase them online or at specialty stores.

Have a lot of Beatles, Beach Boys, Doors and Zeppelin on vinyl.
Same here! I still buy vinyls and people in the shops and behind the counter seem quite taken aback seeing a young girl still buying them! And I have a perty big collection of 60s, 70s and 80s stuff (a fair bit of them were my folks who bought them when they were new, but they say they Don't Bother With Records Anymore) and most of them are still in good nick!

As fer videos, I still watch 'em. Some of my best things are on VHS and a lot of my Muppet/Sesame Street stuff are, too. My brothers' like, "how can you watch a video now that there are DVDs? Why do you bother with VHS?"

You know that used to be a big joke not to long ago about kids not know what a record player was. But not that is actually true, it's almost not quite as funny anymore.:stick_out_tongue:
It's not. It's quite tragic, actually. I menchion 'record' or 'vinyl' to a friend my age and they just give me a really blank look.

I would say records were phased out from regular department stores...probably around 1988/89. I can remember certain stores selling vinyl, cd, and cassettes.

I owned the second Muppet Show LP, but unfortunately I wore it out!

I can remember one time, when I was a little pipsqueak in the early 80s, going to Caldor with my dad, and holding in my hands the very first Muppet Show album! In fact, I think I had even "hidden" it in a different section of the record department the week before, because there was only one copy left. I figured if I mixed it in with the rock LPs, no one would be the wiser.

Sure enough, the album was exactly where I put it when I went back to the store. Sadly, another album caught my eye...I think it was Let It Be. My dad said I could only choose one. The Beatles won out, I put the Muppets back, and the next time I went to the store, it was gone!

To this day, I have never heard the first Muppet Show album.:cry:
Aw, that sucks, man! :cry: I'm lucky enough to own the first Muppet Show album which my mum came across in an op-shop when I was about seven. I don't have any other Muppet records but I own quite a few Sesame Street ones from the early 70s.

Wow! I have to say that that sound's pretty shallow.:stick_out_tongue:

Yeah. I've heard a few tracks off the first Muppet Show album, but never the whole thing. The first two albums should be released on CD!

My vinyl collection is always growing. The last one I picked up was the first Elvis LP from 1956.

Vinyl, VHS, BETA, DVDs all in the same thread! .. where have I been? .. this was such an interesting thread :smile: .. my VHS collection is still quite large.. I have every episode of the original Twilight Zone, because I haven't been able to afford the DVDs yet, and most of Tales From the Darkside as well... I have started to phase out VHS, though, because I just got a VHS/DVD recorder, and I've been transfering my VHS tapes over (usually at the highest quality possible, since most of the tapes are quite old, which limits me to about an hour per DVD).. but now I can happily say that I have a DVD copy of Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, my all-time favorite vampire movie and one that is sadly underrated and needs a proper DVD release..

::tangent::
it's a great little movie, albeit somewhat campy, directed by Anthony Hickox, who did the Waxwork movies, and staring David Carradine and Bruce Campbell about a group of vampires who are trying to stop killing humans and are working on getting a synthetic blood plant going.. the funny thing is that they live in the desert, so they wear sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and SPF 1000 sunscreen for protection.. and it has a wonderful twist ending
::end of tangent::

my vinyl collection is getting smaller everyday.. I've given most of them to my brother, as he has a record player, and I do not.. but I remember the first record I ever bought with my own money was Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. in the summer of 1984.. man, I love that album!

like many of you, I never knew anyone with a BETA player either.. VHS seemed much more popular at the time

my DVD collection is currently growing daily.. I really think I have a problem.. I just hit the 350 mark the other day, and I've got three more coming sometime early next week.. I just love movies so much, and the fact that these DVDs will undoubtedly last as long as I'm alive.. or as long a vision holds out.. at any rate, much longer than my VHS tapes, many of which are well on their way to being unwatchable.. anyway, it makes the purchases worthwhile
