My mom told me to just forget that this ever happened, but it's been on my mind for a while. When I graduated from high school six months ago, we had this ceremony about a month earlier called "Senior Chapel", and we decided to sing a song. Our senior advisor wanted us to sing a song about leaving a legacy, but that lost the vote. Next, we had a student who was a big country fan, and he wanted to do "I Hope You Dance"; that also lost the vote. Our homeroom teacher, also a country fan, wanted to do a Garth Brooks song: "The River", a song which made AOL's list of most annoying songs. Me, being the Renthead that I am, suggested "Seasons of Love", the perfect song to celebrate moving on with your life. Now, bear in mind, this was a Christian school, where liking anything "RENT" related is cause for death (almost). So, naturally that lost the vote and we ended up doing "The River".

No matter how you slice it, "Seasons of Love" has some of the most inspiring lyrics ever. This is the perfect verse for a graduation:

In diapers
Report cards
In spokewheels
In speeding tickets
In contracts
Dollars
In funerals
In births

Not to mention my all-time favorite line: "It's time now/ To sing out/ For the story never ends/" See, the story never DOES end. True, our high school career has ended, but not our lives or goals or dreams. To this day, I still think about the glorious opportunity (to have some truly inspiring lyrics sum up everything) that was passed up.

Well yes, I agree. For the record though, I also love The River.

Seasons Of Love is pretty rockin', but it is by no means the best Renteth song.

It is so overused though. Every high school choir does it. Still, it's an okay song and the lyrics are good.

Yeah, we sang it in high school, so I know all about that.
:smirk:
It may not be the best song, but it's the only one from that particular play that would be appropriate for that moment.
