Hey, I've been wondering this for a long time, why is it that they changed the fix-it shop to the mail-it shop after being the shop of fixing and going to the shop of mailing, I don't get it.

apparently they ran some tests and discovered that kids nowadays don't know what a fix-it shop is because well, who gets things fixed anymore? if something breaks you simply buy a new one. We live in an age of vast consumerism. So it was decided that they would havea mail-it shop instead which would help open up to having more traffic and sillyness on the show. hope this helps.

Every neighborhood has a post office. Not everyone has a do-it-all, we'll fix anything fix-it-shop.

There are only so many broken pop-up toasters in the world. Remember that Maria doesn't know how to fix toaster ovens-- it was really a niche market.

Of course I'm not sure how they are making a living off the Mail-It shop since they seem to mail things for free for most of the residents of Sesame Street....

Besides, it's a great way to introduce kids to technology, and remind adults that you don't have to be rich to access the internet.

Remember, this season, how Oscar found out about "Yuckyworld," and how Big Bird found out about birds of Paraguay? Or what about Baby Bear's party invitations - not only a great intro to copy machines, but also a great lesson in how to do without them!

The same way that Hooper's Store has stayed in business for over 30 years.

Good observation, Foz. It seems like the only currency they use on the show are rubber duckies and paper clips. Lol.

my question is why is it called a mail it shop instead of a post office? imagine a kid in school and the teacher says what's this building called? the kid says a mail it shop. teacher says. no johnny, it's called a post office.

I could shock some of those Sesame Street producers. My digital camera broke last year and I got it fixed for less than the cost of a new one. If they had to replace the Fix-It-Shop, you'd think they would have replaced it with something related such as an electronic shop or something. I wonder what's going to replace Hooper's Store when the neighborhood soda fountain is found to be obsolete.

As for money, there actually were some isolated incidents when currency did change hands at Hooper's Store. In the 70's, a cantankerous elderly muppet got angry at David because he accidentally gave the muppet too little change. The muppet made a sign that said "Don't Shop Here" and picketed the store. Then in the 80's, Petey reminded Forgetful Jones that he had forgotten to pay him. They seemed to put money in if it fit into a skit, but ignored it otherwise.
