well it looks like the other half of Siskel and Ebert. Roger Ebert has passed at 70 a very sad day for critics and film fans everywhere

Sad news. Roger Ebert was a really good film critic and writer, and didn't appear to take the haughty tone that some film critics can easily fall into. Plus his reviews of bad movies were really fun to read.

He had been sick with cancer for quite some time, hadn't he? I seem to recall seeing him on Oprah a few years back, and he had pretty much lost his jaw, and was unable to speak or anything... so yeah, I guess it was only a matter of time.

But yeah, he was a very well-known critic, he and Siskel (and later Roeper) both. I learned recently that in the 70s, Ebert actually co-wrote a couple of screenplays for, of all things, porno movies... I think it was with that guy they mentioned in an episode of SEINFELD where Monk's suddenly only hired busty waitresses.

His Muppet connections include the celebrity version of "Monster in the Mirror", a Sneak Previews sketch with Oscar and Telly, and A Celebration of Me, Grover, where Ebert gives a short review on The King and I.

I'm saddened by his shocking death. He will be missed by many generations.

Very sad. Being an Ebert fan myself, I am just shocked to hear this news. I loved his critiqueing to death. It'll be hard to read the Chicago Sun Times without him.
