Female Muppets

If some of the female muppets from the last 30 years or so were still characters, do you think they could've gained a certain level of popularity like the regular female muppets (such as Abby or Rosita). Personally, I liked Lulu (Seasons 31-33), and I feel like she had potential to become something better than a minor character.

Some of it had to do with performer availability. In the case of characters like Lulu, Elizabeth, and Curly Bear, we lost them because of Stephanie's commitment to Avenue Q.

Sometimes it just involves the writers not being able to write anything good for the character like Deena or Flo Bear.

And sometimes, it just doesn’t workout like Betty Lou or Alice Snuffleupagus.

And it took them nearly 20 years for them to actually start doing things actively with Prairie Dawn instead of "maybe a sketch each season."

Flo Bear was honestly a weird character to begin with . . . she was basically Baby Bear as a drag queen.

During the show's golden years, there was hardly any major female Muppet until Rosita came along. Prairie Dawn and Betty Lou were seen, but in infrequent sketches, especially the pageant sketches. At least Prairie became more prevalent in the 1990s, which explains her appearance in the 1992-93 Calypso-sounding opening.
