My favorite opposite skit was Mahna Mahna dancing around a black screen singing a jazzy song about opposites. First he went up and down some stairs and then up in a rocket and down in a parachute. Then he played a game of near and far. And demonstrated loud and soft with a marching band, jackhammer, police siren, and a guy with a base drum who occasionally zips by which made me laugh. Also was funny were the two singing cows that suddenly popped up in the middle of the skit.

Singing cows are always good for a laugh.

I vaguely remember a skit from the 80s that involved a guy muppet singing this song to a girl. It went something like---"I go up, you go down...I go left and right and you go round and round.....I go over and you go through.......Why is it that you always do the opposite of what I do?" It was a very cute clip that I'm pretty sure was sung by Chris Cerf. Does anyone remember the actual lyrics?
I TOTALLY have the tune in my head, but the lyrics are a lost cause......

There was one I remember with Ernie and Bert where Ernie wanted to play an opposite game. Bert of course didn't want to, but Ernie kept dragging him in by saying the opposite of what Bert said. For example:

Bert: I don't want to play Ernie, Forget it!
Ernie: And the opposite of forget is remember.

Until finally Bert gave up and said he would "play" and Ernie said he couldn't think of the opposite of "play" so he ended the game, leaving Bert frustrated that Ernie got him again.

I don't remember what year this first aired, but it was relatively recent, but before Jim passed away.

I remember that cool skit Mokeystar. It was Little Crissy singing to this black haired lavender girl in a blue turtleneck. And I believe the song went like this.

I go up. You go down.
I go in a straight line, You go round and round.
I go over and under. You go through.
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?
I go left. You go right.
I play in the daytime. You go by the night.
Whenever I go away from, you come to.
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?
When I come in honey, you go out.
You're sure of yourself and I'm filled with doubt.
When I want more, you give me less.
When I say no, you say yes, yes, YES, YES!
Honey, you hang loose and I'm uptight.
You know I'm heavy baby and you are light.
Whenever you stay false, how can I stay true?
WOOO! Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?

I think that girl was trying to play, hard to get, with Little Crissy.

same and different

I'll always keep going back to Season 1, but one skit I enjoyed was Kermit demonstrating "Same", with two rectangles that are the same color, size, etc. Then Cookie takes a bite out of one, making them different. After he takes his bite, he holds the piece in his mouth, and looks like he's smiling!

Kermit is naturally upset that his lecture on "Same" has been sabotaged, but then Cookie bites the second rectangle, restoring them to being the same again, and Kermit's happy once more.

Except there's still one difference. According to Cookie, one rectangle is delicious, but the other one's yucky

i can't find a good place to share this... so i'll pic here.... my fave skit (as a kid) was when Kermit the frog was doing the News Flash (on that note, watching that made me feel like i was adult, for watching the "news" lol) Kermit was on a farm, talking to a farmer about a UFO... Kermit interviews him, as a frizbee is thrown, and the farmer claims that was the UFO... Kermit explains that it was merely a frizbee and beleives that the interview was a waste of time, untilll suddenly the "yup-yup" Aliens come down from a UFO, and start to mingle with Kermit, the Farmer, and farm animals

I remember my sister and I did this weird thing with Grover's near and far skit. We put a blanket over the TV screen and when Grover ran far away, he looked like a fuzzy blue dot. I had no idea why we kept doing it, but it always made us laugh.
