I also remember "The Princess and the Pea." But I don't recall the details.
This was a pretty funny and bizarre one. It was called "The Princess and the Cookie." A cookie was placed under a stack of about 20 mattresses and the princess was played by The Cookie Monster! Kermit the Frog was in "her" bedroom covering the story and at one hilarious part Cookie asks, "Wait a minute! What frog doing in my bedroom?" Kermit says, "Uh.. Kermit the Frog Sesame Street News ma'am." Cookie pauses then says, "Whatever. Oh me tired! Nite nite." Kermit then gives good play by play action : "Hold everything folks, the princess has sat up ... the princess can't sleep folks ...
she's discovered something." Then I didn't quite understand the ending. Cookie Monster shouts out, "Mattress!!" and then starts tearing into them all (with real weird music playing). I guess they just had Cookie notice the mattresses rather than the cookie (or pea) which would have been how the real story went. But the odd thing is that the mattresses should have been a given since "she" directly laid down on one to sleep (as "she" would have done every night for years I'm sure). Plus, as Cookie Monster is tearing through the mattresses "he" says, "What's inside?" Does this mean "he" did detect the cookie after all and that's why "he" was freaking out, or was he just fascinated with the mattresses only and enjoying tearing (and maybe eating) them and wanted to know what good stuff might be inside (oh those scrumptious coiled springs!).

The News Flash sketch I remember liking during my childhood was the one that must've been a spin-off on The Princess and the Pea (but it wasn't "The Princess and the Cookie") where the Princess turns into a frog at the end...can anyone tell me the name of this one?

I don't know about that one. I did think of another one where Kermit wanted to talk about the famous London Fog. Then somebody came in with a London Log and there was a London Frog, etc.

I think there were two that ended like that. One I believe was a Sleeping Beauty spin-off, where Kermit kissed the princess instead of Prince Charming, and she turned into a frog.

Another one where that happened, the princess was going to choose her prince, and she started naming the qualities she was looking for. As she named each one off, more prospective princes left the room(ie. bulgy eyes, funny voice, tiny ears, hat & coat) until only Kermit was left. She then kissed him, thinking he would turn into a handsome prince, but instead she turned into a frog, and she and Kermit left together.

I don't know when these aired, but I vividly remember the second one.

Something doesn't make sense about the 6 Dollar Man sketch. I added up the prices of the things the Prof. used to build him, including the taxes like he said. And it adds nothing of the sort up to 6 dollars. Is it me or am I missing something here?

I do remember that the 6 Dollar Man was made out of junk, his head was a bowling ball, and the best part to me was his feet were made out of pancake turners "from a going-out-of-business diner in Passaic". When you're a fanatic of Sesame Street like I was, and they mention a town that's right in your backyard, it's really cool. Way back in the 70's there used to be a place called the Gold Star Diner in Passaic, New Jersey that I went to a few times when I was little, and the place did close down, so that skit really hit home to me.

I'm pretty sure it was. I forgot a lot of what happens in it but recall the hilarious finale. When along comes the spider he says to KERMIT, "Hey frog!"
Kermit is scared and says, "Ooh what a fearful looking beast!" The spider says, "I've come to frighten you away." Kermit then turns to the audience
trying to do a quick wrap up: "Folks this is Kermit the Frog saying goodbye from Sesame Street News.." As he is speaking the spider says several times, "Hey Frog." Kermit turns to him and says, "What?" The spider says, "Boo." Then Kermit screams and runs away. What made it even funnier is that the spider didn't shout, "Boo!" but merely said it in a calm, normal tone of voice. And yet Kermit was terrified! (Yeah easy for you to smile NOW Froggy baby!)
