chapter 7
"You know Fozzie, Jeremiah prophesied something else besides God's judgement to come upon Israel for their unfaithfulness. Would you like to hear what that was?" Father Marty asked.
"Please tell me Father. I'm ready to listen."
Fozzie put his chin inside his paws and stared at Father Marty's face.
"One example of this great prophecy is in Chapter 23 verse 5. Listen."
Father Marty turned to the verse and read. "The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land."
"What does that mean Father?"
"Well Fozzie. David had been the very first God-honouring king appointed over Israel. He was appointed by God in place of the original king, Saul who was a wicked man at heart and had rejected God's authority over him and the people he ruled over. David was such a godly man however that God promised to make one of his descendants king after him, who would rule with perfect justice. Even though David's royal lineage essentially came to an end with the exile to Babylon, God did keep His promise and one day brought this man from among the descendants of David's family line. He is the man Jesus Christ who is spoken of in the New Testament. He was the One whose coming Jeremiah prophesied. He came to give us hope and joy despite whatever things upset us in our lives. God made Him to be the loving King of us all."
Father Marty went on to share the Good News of the Gospel with Fozzie and gave him some homework notes to work upon by himself that night. Fozzie said he'd give it a go and Father Marty promised to discuss his answers with him the following day. Fozzie was in the Hands of God. Father Marty prayed earnestly for him in his mind and heart.
