Hello! I hope I have found the right place for this...
I have four great kids, and my 8 year old has autism. If you know anything about autism, you know that often, kids with autism have, well, obsessions about certain topics. Like being a really serious fan of whatever...music, space, trucks, whatever. They use their brains so differently, storing up bits and pieces of information about their hobby instead of about life in general. Well, my Matthew is REALLY in to Sesame Street, Jim Henson, puppetry, etc. I think this stems from my serious interest in Sesame Street and Muppets, but he really loves it. He talks about someday being the voice of Ernie and Kermit, and about Frank Oz and Jim Henson and Kevin Clash and Steve Whitmire like he knows them. Anyway, I am wondering if there are ways to allow him to write letters to some of these muppeteers? I have been searching around...he'd like to write to Frank Oz especially. Any good information? I suppose I could find an address for general Sesame Street fam mail, but I have had no luck so far. Of course, with four kids, I haven't exactly had a ton of time to devote to it! Anyhoo, if anyone knows anything, PLEASE let me know! My son and I would be really grateful!

Thanks for both the info and the welcome! I think this is a really wonderful, fun site! I wish I had the hours per day to explore it and read all the archived stuff, since I really love this stuff! I will post when I can, though I really don't have a lot of knowledge to share, just lots of interest! Thanks again!

I think you'll find that a lot of us here may be like that!

lots of us like that.....

True enough! Our consultant that does all of my son's home programs says that from all he can tell, autism being a spectrum, that EVERYONE has a little autistic characteristics here and there...some more, some less. It's really a fascinating topic, and I have been "studying" it for some five years, since shortly after my son's diagnosis. But I have really enjoyed this Muppet fascination, since I am the original "Sesame Street" generation (born in Dec 1967, I was just the right age for it when it happened) and have longed for years to actually visit someday. It is fun, since one of Matt's strengths is his sense of humor and his ability to quote videos he has seen, so he really loves to imitate. We have been better able to teach him things about emotions (which are really tough for him) through puppetry, and the sort of subtle way that Muppets so clearly express emotions within the limited facial features they have is remarkable, and has really helped us!

Whoa...lots of yakking from me on one of my pet topics, but thanks again for answering me. I am enjoying following these forums!
