I just read this thread start-to-finish, what a good discussion and good valid points made all around.
I only want to say one thing, regarding the points about some being unable to do/replicate even if knowing all the secrets, that's absolutely true in my case. For fishnwolfeproductions I direct, write, and I conceive occasional characters, and I'm around FISHNWOLFE working all the time, who is entirely self-taught and a great builder. But can I build? NOOOOOOOOO. I don't have it. I know tons of the stuff, and I'll never have it.
You know, art is for everyone, and I just hope you all follow your creative stars and make the stuff that you love to make. All your art is valuable and valid, don't give up, and I'm sure many self-discovered methods are as valid as some of the JHC ones, very likely. Great discussion.

I think Buck blushed! Buck, the blushing beaver! HA!

Everyone is helpful, too. Even folks just starting out and asking questions sometimes makes me think about simplicity in puppet construction.

It's not an easy task and I'm proud of folks who attempt it; but, art comes in many forms. Writing and whatever else---heck, even a hairstylist is an artist if you think about it--it's all art!!

Exactly. It's all art, and it all matters.

Whoops. Looks like we(or maybe I)chased the pros away. They haven't posted since this thread.

It may sound silly, but this reminds me of dreams I'd always have as a kid when I was really into building puppets and wanting to work for Henson. I'd dream I would meet up with a muppet insider somehow, somewhere and once I started asking questions about how to build a muppet or ask if I could try a muppet on, they would not say a word and would run away and disappear. I'm not kidding!

Sorry ravagefrackle and toastcrumbs if it was something I said. No hard feelings.

Yeah! That's how I made my first live-hands puppet. I had a dream that I somehow came to work Ernie on SS and in my dream I analyzed the puppet; When I woke up, I was ready to make a puppet. That's one of the only good dreams I've had that didn't make me sad when it was all over... except I had to give up Ernie :stick_out_tongue:

Or maybe they just have lives and can't post daily like (unfortunately) the rest of us.

 How high are your prices ravagefrackle? I'm 11 years old and I want something my family can afford. I'd make my own puppets but I don't know a thing about it! :stick_out_tongue: (I've attempted to make my own live-hand puppet, it stinks)
I'm thinking of maybe Frazzle P. Wormgut or Laura Lovebird(both original designs)
