Remember when this salesman would try to sell ERnie something, and it would usually be a nickel? I remember one time He was selling Ernie a picture of 4 elephants, and at first Ernie couldn't see them, and the samesman always said "SHHHHH!" to Ernie when he felt Ernie spoke too loudly. HE also sold Ernie other things too. Did Carroll SPinney do the voice of the salesmsn, or was it someone else?

Lefty the Salesman was performed by Frank Oz (Bert/Grover/Cookie Monster), though I think there may have been a few early sketches when Caroll Spinney performed him. Oz was his main performer though.

Carol Spinney performed him in at least two skits, the one where he and Ernioe held up P and R signs, and the one where he tried to sell Ernie a letter U.
