This skit made me a little nervous when I was little. It was not out of character for Ernie to let his imagination run away with him, but it was unusual for him to bawl ol' Herb out like that, especially when Herb was totally innocent. And the ending always spooked me to see the look on Herb's face and that loud synthesized "TOOOOOIIIINNNNGGGG!" at the end.

But I like the idea of a sequel where Ernie apologizes, and remembers why he was there in the first place.

If his conscience was till bothering him whether or not to knock on Herb's door, Ernie could still go to his local supermarket and rent a vaccuum for the day.:stick_out_tongue:

Yeah. I remember reading that at the SS Lyrics Archive. I was pretty surprised by the way :stick_out_tongue: acted in that one, but I guess character's personalities weren't fully established back in 1970. That's probably why I never saw that one when I watched the show as a kid in the 80s. By that point, Ernie was established as a loveable, friendly character and they didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

Think you're making a big deal out of nothing.

I'm sure Ernie was the same back then as well.

It's just a bunch of silliness.

Ernie simply worries about what might happen and just takes it to far. He thinks to far ahead and gets all mad for nothing and what you got was a very silly person making a fool out of himself and Herb doesn't know what's going on.

It's nothing but pure comedy and there's no need to discuss this any further.

So let's just watch and enjoy.

I bet that took place in 1970, and I bet Ernie was played by Jim Henson.
Three cheers for Captain Obvious! Hip Hip Hooray!
I can sleep good tonight knowing you solved this troubling mystery.
Keep up the good work!
