Ernie and cookies

Ernie was quite the cookie monster himself!
There was also the time he filled up the laundry basket with so much junk there was no room for any laundry. A small box of cookies was included in the mix. Reason given: in case he (and Rubber Ducky?) get hungry while waiting for the laundyry to be done.

Then there was the time where, off-camera, Ernie accidentally broke the cookie jar, but still highly prioritized having the cookies in a secure location. So he put the cookies in the sugar bowl, the sugar in the flower pot, etc...

One day, Bert was reading a newspaper and Ernie asked him how to spell the word "Help". Bert told him how it was spelled (begrudgingly? I'm not sure.), and Ernie moved back off camera. Then Bert is alarmed that Ernie might be in grave trouble; afterall, why else would he want to know how to spell "Help". Bert quit reading the paper and desperately asked Ernie what was wrong. Turned out that Ernie fixed a nice plate of cookies, and put up a sign that read "Help Yourself".

One time Ernie had a plateful of assorted cookies and was trying to match them. He wasn't doing so well at it, but then Cookie Monster came by and produced a matching pair right away. Of course, CM was quick to demonstrate a "better way" to match cookies. After eating up the contents of the plate in one fell swoop (to a musical accompaniment?), CM said "All cookies are crumbs and in my tummy. They all match. Bye-bye." Note that CM was still holding the matching pair from before.

Oh yeah even further examples of Ernie's cookie loving. But despite all these, there are two skits that would forever discredit Ernie as being an acceptable "cookie monster"!
(1) In the skit where Ernie cleans up the place in 15 seconds so he can win Bert's dessert, Bert says the dessert is cookies and ice cream. And Ernie says those are his two favorite desserts. Whereas Cookie Monster would never equate anything else with cookies (In his "C is for Cookie" song, he says "A round doughnut with a bite out of it also looks like a c. But it is not as good as a cookie!").
(2) When Ernie wants to buy an empty box from Lefty the Salesman but doesn't have any money on him, Bert comes along with a whole box full of cookies. Ernie throws the cookies on the ground so he can use the box to catch jellybeans from the sky! No way would Cookie Monster do such a thing even if it DID rain jellybeans from the sky!
But despite these two instances, Ernie sure did display himself to be a "muppet after CM's own mouth!"

the sesame street book of puzzles

Pictures and dialog from this segment appeared in a book from 1970 called The Sesame Street Book Of Puzzles, but the ending lines (with ernie not being able to eat dinner and asking bert if he wanted a cookie) were not included. I think certain dialog from other sketches were not included in that book as well. I have read that at the end of the skit where Kermit wanted Grover to get inside a box, after discovering that there was already a monster in the box, grover greeted the monster ("hi, fred"), but that line wasn't included in the book.
