That must factor in the fabrication and design costs as well. There's no way the materials and labor for one poser can add up to $20,000.

When it comes to the TV and film industry, you would be surprised at the prices that are charged in a specialised industry.
Not only can Actors and Actresses demand six figure payments, but it goes through to most areas in Production.If you want someone special to make something, you have to open your wallet till you get their attention.Ah, that's Hollywood!

I have heard that some Muppet designs have cost in the thousands, but it depends on the labor involved. A Kermit puppet wouldn't likely cost that much, but a Dr. Teeth could easily cost a fortune. Mass production would certainly cut down on cost per unit, but during the Jim era there was usually only one puppet for each character. Old pieces were cannibalized for new puppets so exact cost is hard to measure. Posers with durability concerns and intricate and unique armatures are an entirely different issue than puppets. Then there's the value of said puppet if stolen vs. the actual building costs. In other words – $20G for a Kermit does surprise me, but $5-10G for an official individually designed Kermit poser doesn’t. Either way, it's up there!
