The very first season was different.Remember this was an expirement.

They didn't know how succesful this television series would be they just made some random puppets figuring they would never use them and they didn't realize how scared kids were.

Cookie Monster didn't change in the first season but he had a different design but he still looked like the cookie monster.Grover was totally made over.He was a green ugly muppet used in old sketches back in the early 60's he soon became blue and changed into a cute little monster.

Beautifal Day Monster only appeared in the FIRST SEASON he was used alot in the first season as a scary monster.Splurge was used in the show once I believe,

All the monsters evovled into somebody else I think the three headed monster in the Jim Henson Muppets on Puppets special were later Tom,DIck,and Harry.

But remember these were mainly left over puppets from other projects!:stick_out_tongue:
you know i've heard this before of they didn't know how successful SS would be, but that's the case with all TV shows and they must of had the thought that it could succeeed or they probably would of even bothered. and while i can understand perhaps not realizing kids being scared by certain things but if i were somebody on the have of NET as it was still know as or any group that either promoted it, or whatever, i probbaly would of said, you don't think kids would of been troubled by some of these monsters? i find it even ironic that the Beautiful Day segments were reused after the 1st season and i know they were because i saw some of them and i was born 4 years after the show began.

Apparently, children mustn't have been all that afraid of the monsters because the first season succeeded and thrived. If it had been truly traumatic, I doubt if the show could have survived. I wasn't usually afraid of the monsters in the early seasons, but I was afraid of the Count that came later on. So who's to say? All children are different.

One of my main complaints about the Sesame Muppets today is that they look TOO cute. Many characters on children's shows, comics, and cereal boxes seem to evolve until they become "disgustingly cutesy." Give me the old days of cross eyed Bert with a nose as long as a sausage, Ernie with a purple nose and totally messed up hair, Herry Monster with a big blue furry nose that made him look like he didn't even have one when he faced the camera. Yeah, those were the days. Okay, they all looked pretty cool in their different forms throughout the 70's and 80's, but the ones today just try to hard to be cute. JMO

Also, the scary SS monsters were funny, so that helped the show survive, too.

And when was the last time a SS monster had teeth? You don't see that often anymore.

True. That was also a rare Frazzle appearance because it was the second time the Frazzle puppet was used (they used to use the tall orange AM for previous appearances). The new puppet had visible hands and a bigger mouth.

But what about after that?
