Dr. Seuss Victimized by Christmas?

Maybe it's because of the Grinch, but it seems to me that in the last couple of years or so, it seems as if Dr. Seuss specials, in general, are associated with Christmas...

For example, last year during ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas programming, they aired a few Dr. Seuss specials, including the Grinch, Cat in the Hat, and the Lorax... admittedly, I always associated the Lorax with Halloween, because I have an old tape from my childhood that has a bunch of Halloween cartoons and specials taped on it, and for some reason, the Lorax was included, but that's besides the point. Then this year, TBS did a special airing of the Grinch, and then Mike Myers's version of CITH, and so close to the holidays.

Again, I'm wondering if it's because it seems like the Grinch is Dr. Seuss' most popular creation, if these networks and programmers are using that to try to expose more Seuss specials around the holidays, figuring people will actually watch them then, instead of any other time of the year?

I think in TBS' case, they were probably just trying to keep the viewers from the Grinch watching TBS and thought that another Seuss thing would keep them around. It might be the same logic elsewhere.. although I think part of the problem may be that they don't have any idea when to air the other specials.. although, I could see The Lorax on Earth Day and The Butter Battle Book on Memorial Day. Any Seuss is better than no Seuss.

I adore the Lorax and Butter Battle Book (the end freaked me out when I saw the cartoon as a child - but that's the POINT) the Sneeches and The Grinch (the book, cartoon, film, & computer game, ha!) and the list goes on...of course all Dr. Suess books are gold. It's funny, I once chose a book he wrote under another name (Theo Lesieg !) as my fave, "10 Apples Up On Top" and felt a big guilty it wasn't a Suess book...later to learn it WAS! So that was cool. He had a different artist for it though, Roy McKie...anyway, I know that's all off topic, sorry. But yeah, I dunno why they throw all Suess stuff together instead of spreading it out, but I'm glad they show it

I think the problem is that specials are now a Christmas only thing... which bugs me. I mean, I'm sure we can remember all the just so specials that we used to have... random half hour cartoons about the Peanuts NOT celebrating Holidays... same with Garfield before the Garfield and Friends TV show... and yes... all the Dr. Seuss specials (most by Depatie Freling... some with music by a little composer you may have heard of... Joe Raposo). But not so much anymore. You may be lucky to find "A Charlie Brown Valentine" or "The great pumpkin"... but Christmas is the only time they do this now...

So I'd guess that ABCfamily (which, to my comprehension only has teen programming now) or whatever lumps Dr. Seuss specials into the Christmas viewing season. I remember when all the specials (or just a good number of them) were combined as a 2 hour movie and aired on TV 10 years ago.

I remember back in 1995, around halloween they aired most of the Dr. Seuss specials in a marathon. Halloween is Grinch Night was shown a few days before, and In Search of Dr. Seuss premiered the next night, a "making of" special was attached to How the Grinch Stole Christmas that year, and Daisy-Head Maisie was in production.
