Um, I thought this thread was about Don Music. I've got quite a platter to post in this thread, so watch out now ...

Don Music was in the 1989 NBC special "Sesame Street: 20 and Still Counting". It was likely the last time Richard performed Don Music.
Actually, in SS#2795 (which aired in 1991, to be exact), Don visits Mr. Handford and Gina at the newly-renovated Hooper's store a few hours before its grand re-opening, so he can perform a song he just wrote about it. Astonishingly, his piano is big enough to fit in the store.

It goes a little something like this:

You need a pack of gum.
A Band-Aid for your thumb.
You're hungry and you want a bite to eat.
You don't know where to go,
And then you think, "I know ...
They've got it all, and they're just down the street!"

Oh, oh, oh,
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, it's where everybody shops.
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, they've got pickles, they've got mops.
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, it's where Big Bird buys his seed.
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, they've got everything you ...

umm ... what's that last word? ... oh, yes!
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, they've got everything you want.
No, no, no, that can't be right ... wait!
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, they've got everything you like.
No, no, that doesn't rhyme with "seed "either! Hmmm ...
Hooper's, Hooper's, Hooper's, they've got everything, you bet. Um, Everything, you guys ...
oh, it's hopeless! I'll never get it right!! Never, never, NEVER!!
*BONNNNGGGG*

It should be noted that, when Don throws a fit as usual, instead of banging his head on the keys, he just throws his head on the keys and lays there. Plus, the viewer doesn't see the impact of Don's head with the keys.

Fortunately Gina and Handford help him out in the end. Whether or not that was his final appearance, it sure is a great one. At the end, he holds his head up high and proclaims triupmhantly, "I knew I could do it!" I can't recommend that episode highly enough.

Did you see this at the Museum of TV & Radio? It's amazing you remember the episode number and everything! I think Chris Cerf wrote that song! Also, didn't #2795 have the "New Ball In Town" animation?

No, I've never been to the MT&R, but I taped the episode when it aired. It's a really good copy too. And you're right about the "New Ball In Town" sequence.

Other highlights in that episode include an amusing Jerry Nelson song called "The Inside Story," and "Ernie Plays The Drums" - with a pretty cool ad-lib by Bert.

That Hooper's Store song sounded promising. I guess that was around the time I stopped watching the show so I didn't see it. They should have recorded that on a CD or something. I don't remember his song "Oooh, my head" or were you kidding about that, Roadrat?

I wish they would release a CD of Don's greatest hits (and self inflicted injuries!)

Some more of Don Music's Greatest Hits:

WHISTLE, WHISTLE LITTLE BIRD
(to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Whistle, whistle, little bird
Eating crumbs is quite absurd
Have a ham and cheese on rye
And a piece of cherry pie
If the crumbs are all you want
Don't come to my restaurant!

***

STORMY NIGHT
(to the tune of the Sesame Street Theme)

Stormy night, not even a star in sight
On my way to where the sky is dark
Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Yellowstone Park?

***

MARY HAD A BICYCLE
(to the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb)

Mary had a bicycle, it was as red as fire
And every time she wanted to ride, the bicycle had a flat tire

***

I even came up with a bit once where Don appears at the Muppet Theatre and tries to write a new theme song:

Don: "I have it! I have it! Listen to this:

It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights
It's time to get things started...get things started...get things...get...oh, I'll never get it, never, EVER!!!!" *bangs his head on the piano keys*

Floyd: "And you never will at the rate you're goin', man! That's the OLD theme!"

Or this one, where a distraught Don is approached by Gonzo:

Gonzo: "Wow, Don! You have talent! I love what you do!"

Don: "Really?"

Gonzo: "Yeah! The way you bang your head on the piano...you get a good sound out of it! Could you show me how to do that?"
