There's one quote in The Muppet Christmas Carol, when Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Present attend nephew Fred's party. When Clara suggests they play a game, Scrooge asks "Do people play games at Christmas?"

For many years I thought the concept of playing games at Christmas was just an unusual activity Fred and his friends were doing at Christmas, not at all thinking of the fact that Scrooge hadn't celebrated Christmas in a long time and was unaware of many things people do at Christmas.

Growing up, my family pretty much didn't play games on Christmas, at least not as any kind of Christmas tradition (we don't have Christmas sing-alongs either like many families seem to do in Christmas movies, specials, and television episodes). Sure, whenever I got a board game or video game on Christmas Eve or Day, I woul usually play some on the day I got them (I haven't gotten any board games for Christmas in years, but I usually still do find time to play whatever video games I get for Christmas on Christmas day). And sometimes I would play the board games with certain relatives.

But anyway, do any of you have any family traditions of playing games on Christmas, and not just games somebody recieves as presents?

We usually play Monopoly in our house at Christmas. And we ALWAYS plays 20-questions whenever we get together (Christmas or not.)

Talk about irony: I started this thread yesterday, and today me and my family actually did play some non-material games today, most of which involved present opening (this year we all purchased two gifts each).

My family usually doesnt. We're usually busy with all our gifts. This year, we got an XBOX with the kinect so I guess that counts as playing games.

My family have this tradition of writing Poems on our Christmas gifts.. short little clues in poem form. It's a lot of fun, and... sorf of a game :stick_out_tongue:

We usually play Pictionary if we have extra relatives staying... or Scrabble. This year we played Killer Bunnies :stick_out_tongue: Oh, and some DDR. We love our games

It sure is! It just makes it that bit more special because of the effort of thinking up a little witty riddle for each other.

Although, sometimes you get the odd one that's too difficult, and your too tired, so you just write something like BOO!
But that still sort of funny because you expect at least one of these each year :stick_out_tongue: haha

When I was younger, my mom used to make my brother and I decide which gift the other would get to open next. I guess that was kind of like a game. My brother's moved out and I only get money instead of presents these days, so we don't get to do that anymore. :frown:
