Ilike current stuff from SST, they look great on YouTube, but on TV and DVD, those same bits look terribly blurry and fuzzy, like a poor quality video on YouTube.
thats has to do more with the TV and DVD player than how its shot

BUT ANYWAYS....im torn i love these movies but i really hate this 3D gimmick as whats said i dont get why James Cameron is at the helm of it and 3D is just the beginning he wants 48fps movies and what not

my friend saw lion king with his GF and told me that he didnt see the point and it was a waste of money because they took her kid who didnt want to wear the glasses...and of course the movie came out yesterday on blu ray which they couldve waited for, had the same experience

That's why I wish they'd consider re-releasing these in the original 2-D. Though, with Lion King, that re-release WAS pretty much an advertisement for it's DVD release. But then again, 3-D prices or not, it did better than NEW films that came out in both weeks it was out. Maybe they're onto something.

Still, the only one I'm REALLY looking forward to for the 3-D is Monsters Inc.

That one would look pretty cool with that gimmick too. In will say I'm kicking myself for not seeing the 3-D Cars 2. That was a movie where you really had to see it in 3-D.

Animation, CGI and stop motion specifically, is the only thing that looks great that way. Sigh... I wish 3-D was more easily accessible back when Coraline was released. I hear that was THE 3-D movie.

Yeah, Coraline really is a movie you HAVE to see in 3D, otherwise, it's a bit harder to watch. I mean I do like the movie overall, it's in my DVD collection, but watching it without the 3D doesn't quite work.

Back when it was released, the 3-D was limited time only, and only available at the most expensive theaters. I'd've had to pay 15 bucks for it at a matinee.

Now, EVERY theater I know has 3-d, save for one, but it's owned by the same people who own another that does have it.

I only have one local theater that plays one movie a every few weeks. They still use a reel to reel projector too. If I wanted to see a 3D movie, I'd have to drive like an hour into the heart of the city.

I only saw Coraline as the home 3D movie...I liked how the 3D was subtle, but I dont think it made the movie better. I wouldnt know about theater 3D though

3-D or not 3-D, it's great that Disney's re-releasing these older films to theaters.
That's basically how I feel too. The 3D is just an excuse to get them back in the theaters and I love that kids would be able to see them on the big screen.

It's hard to say how long the 3D gimmick will last. The future is really with the Internet more than anything else.

Yeah...Coraline was THE 3d movie... Even when the 3d Teaser was first released, everybody was in complete and total awe of it..including me... that tunnel scene when it first unfolds...amazing

The 3-D gimmick came from people not wanting to pay to see movies and waiting for them to hit DVD and online streaming.

Now, while that's all well and good, and some people HAVE to wait for cheaper forms of the movies, there ARE a lot of us who love seeing a movie on the big screen. Plus, that also gives the negative effect of making sure movies are made specifically to make their money via streams, rentals, and DVD's. And that means, less budget. And while a lot of crappy action films should have smaller budgets since they're a waste anyway (Transformers any movie that wasn't animated by Toei), it tends to pick on smaller, independent films or well minded films that need as much money as possible.

So basically, DVD rentals and everything lead to crummier movies. Movies that are only made because similar films make money, at least when they come to video.

The 3-D thing was added not too long before Avatar, but definitely before any of us really noticed it. It was for gimmicky stuff like the horrible re-envisioning of Journey to the Center of the Earth. No one saw that. In fact, before Avatar, they might just have dumped the whole system. It wasn't widely available, there were only a couple gimmicky movies that did that sort of thing. I can safely say, the first 3-D movie I bothered seeing was the re-release of Nightmare Before Christmas... and that was hoops to jump through. 12 bucks at least and I had to go to the big expensive shiny theaters for that.

Now, even some smaller, independent theaters have it. And only a few bucks more on their already low prices. They're more accessible, and for a while they were doing strongly. Now everyone's kinda sick of 3-D... just when EVERYONE is making EVERYTHING 3-D.

But my point still stands... if it takes a dumb gimmick to see some Disney films again period, so be it. Some of us don't want the huge DVD movie collection, and those that do don't have the window of less than a year to grab them before that vault garbage, only to have to wait 10 years for a rerelease with 2 more special features (one being the obligatory Dizzy pop star doing a cover of a song from the movie).
