You might consider talking to your folks about some foods you'd like to eat in your quest.

I came from a good German household were everything was covered in butter, salt, pepper, gravy, various sauces, etc.

It was only after I lived on my own that I started to realize that you can make the best dinners with very little bad stuff added to food.

Things like fish (perch, salmon, trout, etc etc etc) are very low cal, low carb, and taste wonderful with just a sprinkling of things that aren't real bad for you (like pepper or onion powder or lemon pepper).

There are some really good low cal good carb tasty veggies out there too that don't need salt, butter, or cheese to taste good. I love broccoli, asparagus, and tomatos, and eat them all raw whenever they are in the house.

And like it was said earlier. Don't skip meals. The more you keep your metabolism up, the easy the pounds slip away.

Another thing I do is keep pictures of me up when I was skinny and of people I think are sexy. To me thats a big motivator as well.

I weighed in this morning while thinking of you, and shed 2 pounds the last week. Keep the faith and you can do it.

I'm right there with you, Scoot.

I've been overweight since before you were born (kinda shows my age, huh? ) Anyway, I'm also in college. But more than anything, I want to be healthy and in shape to keep up with my daughters
:flirt:Adrienne -15, Alisha -13 and Vicki -10:flirt:
That's no mean feat. So, with my busy schedule :smirk:(work, school, kids) I don't have alot of time for exercise, but 3 regular meals is making a big difference. I exercise on the weekends, mostly just walking, but I got one of those Ty Bo tapes with Billy Blanks (?) it looks like fun for about 20 lbs from now.

I don't look at the scale at all, because with me, the inches are what come off, not so much the weight.

So, keep up the good work. Looks to me like you have a great support group-count me in!:excited:

Actually, the things on the above list aren't, necessarily, "bad" fro you. It's the amounts of the things. But, yeah, I know what you're saying. My mother's part Italian, my father's part German. I'm also part Scotish, part Irish, and part French. You get the picture. No one goes hungry here! Besides, I hate gravy and pepper. Most sauces, actually.

Good! 2 pounds may not seem like alot, but, I know from experience, it is!

I'll talk to my parents about that. I have before, but I'll keep it up. There are very few vegetables I actually like, but I do like brocolli, tomatoes (ocassionally), celery, a few others. I like carrots and most roots, but they're not really considered a vegetable. :frown:

I know from studies that carbs are a big part of weight gain. I'm trying to cut back on them. And, since I don't particularly like most red meats (I do like some of them ocassionally), the only meats I'll really be eating are chicken and fish... and... dare I say pork? :embarrassed:

I've never really been thin, so having a picture of myself from when I was thin is kinda cancelled out. But, I've got good motivation... which I can't think of...

Thanks, Nate!

Before I posted this, there was a 10 minute period where I couldn't be online. During which time, I began pacing the kitchen floor. Anyway, I was walking back and forth, staring at my feet, and realized something... I walk like a girl! DARGH! One more thing to be picked on about! *sigh* I guess I'm gonna have to work on that too.

Oh yeah! I gots more advice!

In the first week of dieting and exercising you may notice a huge difference. I lost 10 lbs the first week on Weight Watchers, and that's not uncommon for your first week. But there after, the most you should be loosing a week is 2 lbs. So don't get frustrated if it takes a long time. The best way to loose weight is slowly.

You'll also end up hitting a plateau at some point. This is where no matter how hard you try you won't loose weight for awhile (not too long though, usually just a couple of weeks to a month) and may even gain a few pounds. But don't give up! This is all completely normal.

I like this thread... it's one where I can finally give advice on something.

Exactly! Your body has a set point so as you lose weight your energy expenditure lowers so you don't burn as many calories. But patience is a virtue!

1. increased activity/exercise
2. maintain metabolism with regular meals

(can you tell I'm making nutr. sci notecards right now? )
