Seems like some have a problem with "Bye Bye Bellum" and have compared it unfavorably to "Something's a Ms.", only in the latter it was about the Mayor getting seduced by Sedusa in disguise, while the former was about him needing to be independent. But apparently people are finding it a slap in the face that the Mayor seemed to not care about Miss Bellum anymore, comparing two key scenes from both episodes.

To me, it's clear that the Mayor accepted that Miss Bellum is on a long-overdue vacation, but still hasn't gotten over needing help, which is why he was so quick to hire Bianca Bikini. And I feel that in "Something's a Ms.", Sedusa's seductive behavior may have inadvertently made him appreciate Bellum all the more, hence the heartfelt speech he gave to the girls when she was held for ransom. However, he seemed to really like how easily she threw herself at him when she was Sedusa in disguise, so I don't know how much of that speech was truly from the heart or from an area further below the belt, if you know what I mean.

From what I understand, a lot of people are assuming that the removal of Bellum is because she's *GASP* sexy and there can be absolutely no women with boobs in the show.

I dunno. I don't think her removal was warranted but I'm not gonna cry about it. People are just looking for stuff to complain about. All the negative reviews I've watched have mostly been very nitpicky. The only thing I can really agree with is the use of memes in the show. That's...eh. Personal preference I don't like memes that much and its gonna date the show more than it needs to be. I still can't get past how round the animation style is, but I'm not going to immediately call the show bad for my own visual style preferences :T

I'd see it go the other way too about losing a strong female lead in the show as well. As far as I'm concerned, it feels like she's gone mainly to put the ever suffering assistant jokes to bed as well as trying to give character development back into the Mayor. And I like the direction that could take, considering the original series took the flustered, fumphering, none too bright Mayor and turned him into a pickle and toast obsessed colicky baby. And so far, I like how he's more independent, but still pretty dim. If there's one thing I really liked about the Unicorn episode, it was how he was giving a tour of the pickle museum, all completely and blissfully unaware of the monster rampage, even when it was slowly destroying the museum.

Plus, it feels like the Mayor isn't going to be featured that much anyway. He was in, what, three or four episodes so far?

Not that I don't think there's a few valid complaints about the show, I get the feeling it's all "we don't want to like it because it's new and some internet critic doesn't like it for some reason so it's cool to hate on it." Even discounting the "I've seen worse" I still don't get it. I don't even think I could call it a reboot to be honest. It feels just like new episodes of a series made like over 10 years apart. And exactly in the sense that it's different writers writing the episodes that much later. I've seen bigger discrepancies with shows that are still on the air and always have been. There are frankly more noticeable changes between Family Guy in its prime (generously a season or two into the relaunch) and its current format.

Though I kinda agree about the memes with the understanding that everything reflects the time it was made. I'm not saying the original series is totally timeless, but most of it tends to carries over. Even the bit about using land lines for a Fisher Price phone.

We Bare Bears at least uses memes more naturally, mainly to satirize Millennial culture.

You would probably act like that too if you were cooped up in a magic box for centuries.

I'm fifty fifty about Blossom's clean freakiness in the series. I'll admit that her behavior in the Monster Island episode was a little off. I can see why the fanbase would be annoyed by that, and that's one of the valid concerns I do consider. However, I like how it plays out here. She has that imperfect leader quality where she refuses to listen to other solutions, and goes head first into a bad idea because of arrogance. Making everything overly complicated and driving Bubbles to tears of frustration, and all when the simpler solution was right all along. And that sort of thing lead to her unleashing monsters into the house.

It really seems the series is trying to balance between the mundane aspects of what being a superhuman entails and actual crime fighting/city saving things. And I have to admit, I like that aspect and it wasn't completely foreign to the original series. I also like the idea of Super Heroes screwing things up, having to clean up their own mess, and realizing the consequences of their actions. That's why I find Age of Ultron superior to the first Avengers movie (at the very least in story) and am very excited to see how that plays out in Civil War. The girls have a history of doing the wrong thing now and then, but learning from that. And frankly, whatever the detractors of this show can say, that's an underlying concept of PPG the new show gets right. Even with the age acceleration potion. They couldn't actually be super heroes being that weak, and gave up the perks for the sake of the many.

Though... what the heck is with that bit about them watching that incoherent 70's sci-fi movie? I got Space Dandy flashbacks.

Well, that episode sure was something. Bubbles and Buttercup were proven to be right about a "Ghost Horse" haunting the school when the visiting scientist that Blossom idolized was revealed to be

the school janitor-turned-centaur in disguise, leaving the real scientist bound and gagged so he could use Blossom to turn all of mankind into animals like him.
