Should work, I used to live near an actual foam store and they used these. You should look in to a lubricant that can be used safely on the blade because they tend to dull quickly.

I use a larger version of a bandsaw then the mini and yes it works fine. I have never used a lubricant with it but I am in a situation where the bandsaw is used quite a bit for many mediums so it is changed often. I agree that a larger version is going to be more versitile if you can afford it.

I also use it to rough cut styro foam shapes that I use when carveing heads for my marionettes.

I often fall back on the electric knife since it gives me a bit more control.
