It could be good in some ways to intergrate cg into some productions, but anyone who is thinking of replacing the muppets with computer generated ones, it would never be the same, They are called the muppets because they are puppets, they would have to change the name to the cgiets or animationets or something like that. It wouldnt be good at all.

I truly hope they tread carefully with anything like this.

Wow. Cool discussion. I posted my thoughts here (look under June 22) but I am with Manda and don't see a problem with using CGI tools to enhance puppets.

In the case of Yoda in Episode II, I think it was cost decision - there was so much CG work with Yoda that it was probably hard to justify the time and expense it would have added to the shooting schedule to use a puppet in close ups. We all know George Lucas loves his digital toys. It's probably also very hard to get Frank Oz, who's said he loves the CG Yoda and doesn't miss being trapped under the set puppeteering.
