There was a skit that aired last week with a zydeco band performing at a swamp at night, and it was about counting to 100 by 5s. Jerry Nelson was singing it, and it was much like that song "It's Zydeco" from the early 90s. Remember that?

And also, about 2 weeks ago, there was a skit where Bert was just starting his day by eating oatmeal, and Ernie brought onto the set, a frog that counted to 100 by 10s.

Anyway, I wonder what's with counting so high these days? I think kids are getting smarter and smarter. Because don't forget, they have also done those animations with counting flowers by 2s.

Yes, I remember the sketch/song "It's Zydacco." And as for the counting by 2's, there's this character that sounds like Jerry Nelson attempting an accent not unlike Austin Powers with alittle girl where they counted up to 16. Now as for counting up to 100, this is the first I've heard of it. The old high standard was 40. Examples are the animated short with the man counting stars in the sky, the rabbit running up the stairs in a race against the tortoise that was also animated, the sketch/game show hosted by Guy Smiley named Happiness starts at 40, and the episode where Betty Lou operated on a sick Telly Monster thus curing him of number-itis.
Hope this helps and have a good day.

Counting to 100 by tens is a pretty standard K-1 skill these days. It is part of the math curriculum of every program I ever taught in those primary grades.

Well, as far as I understand, they still are doing some stuff, but not as much, for a little bit older kids. But when I was in Kindergarten, people didn't learn how to count to 100 until then. And what I thought was, but I guess you're right, that kids were smart enough to learn to count to 100 when they're 3 years old.
