Hi guys, thought I'd try my hand at a sort of series of one-shot segments. Gotten some inspiration from a few of the fanfics floating around, Cold Flippers and Once Upon My Heart, at least in mannerism/details that will come into play later on... If this ends up being modestly successful that is. Who knows, could build it into a collection where I can pour everything I've been wanting to do into one place.
Hope you guys enjoy the initial sampling.
Ground 0: A Stormy Entrance.
Hensonville was quiet, night had come early today. Or rather, the streetlights had turned on earlier than usual, the storm's echoes rebounding in the skies above the fair town. All of the Muppets adjourned their practice at the Benny Vandergast Theater, scurrying off for the relative coziness of the Muppet Boarding House on this first rainy autumn afternoon. Their boarding house afforded some comfort, Muppets of all types just sort of settling down at the piano or in front of the TV waiting for this latest deluge to end. Of course, they were just exaggerating, as the rain had ceased a while ago only filling the streets with enough water so that road travel had become impassible. No, not impossible... Merely impassible.
"Gee, look at that" Scooter remarked marveling at Richard and Dave paddling their red rowing shell.
"1, 2, 3, 4, Stroke!" Jerry proclaimed, glad to be the one calling out orders this time.
"Mmmhm, hope noone's gotten stranded out in this storm" Kermit mused watching from behind the slightly iced bay window.
"Ah ha!" cried a familiar voice from beneath his black umbrella. "I just love thunderstorms!"
The numerian vampire was on his way to meet the master of that blackened toy castle. The owner of that establishment, however, had other plans. Static filled the air as a lone figure next to the Hooper's Store's streetlight got his instructions.
"Hey mac" the stranger called to the Count in a hushed tone. He was a male Muppet, a bit taller though not by much. His olive green skin remained concealed by his dark grayish trenchcoat, worn closed over his normal clothes. All one could see of his face were his downcast eyes and round light grayish nose, the black fedora gracing the tippy-top of his pointy head as he made sure their conversation wasn't overheard. The time was now to start his presentation...
"Yes?" The Count asked nearing the street corner where the stranger beckoned.
"Listen..." the merchant motioned almost whispering at his intended target audience. "Got a sale for you today."
"For me?"
"Riiiight."
"Mmm, how intriguing. Pray tell, vhat do you have for me to look at?"
"Cast yer bloodshot peepers on this." He opened his trenchcoat, revealing a stark pressed white shirt and jeans underneath, along with a little bat-wrapped box in his coat's inner pocket. Now was the moment to go for the kill.
"Look... That friend of yours..." he jabbed a thumb over at the toy castle. "He wants you to have this, consider it a freebie for now. To get you started he says." The transaction consumated, the Count was left alone gazing at his newly acquired trinket.
Three darkened figures huddled against the inner entrance of the Muppet Theater, surveying the scene. They retreated inwards before being spotted as the master counter craned his neck in their direction. He scanned the toy castle, a bit disappointed noone was there, no lights eminating from the recess of the workshop as the front doors were now locked shut.
"Mmm, vonder vhat's in here" the Count mused to himself. He ambled into the corner grocery store/diner and unwrapped the small parcel. There was a finely detailed hard plastic figurine cushioned by the small cottony fluff enveloping it within the box's flaps. The figure was of none other than Mr. Grimness clad in his darkened coat, gloves, walking shoes, a low-brimmed black hat, and his dark glasses. He held his bat-topped walking stick in his left hand somewhat raised at an angle in the air, as a big white 0 in high relief was visible on a little batty buckle upon his shoulder.
The plan had started, this was only the beginning of many new surprises to come...
Hope you guys enjoy the initial sampling.
