The Region 1 release has been out for quite a while but it isnt the same as the collectors edition we are getting here. I dont think, it might be similar though.
In Looking at the Specs for both of the US (Region 1) releases (there were two of them) and the Australian (Region 4) releases there is little new stuff - if anything you are getting less. Below is a run down of the R1 and R4 DVDs. Items in
blue are on
Australian versions but not US; items in
red are on
US versions but not Australian. (Sorry if my facts are incorrect but according to several online retailers these are the "official" specs of each product).
Here are the Labyrinth run downs. The only new thing R4 has that R1 missed out on is 3.0 sound (the US versions came with 2.0 and 5.1). The R4 release has almost all the same stuff except except 2.0 and 5.1 sound and Australian buyers don't get the packed in
Limited edition animation cel and the character sketch cards by Brian Froud (which are found in the US collector's edition).

Here are the Dark Crystal run downs, the R4 release has nothing that R1 users missed out on. But R4 users do miss out on some features R1 users got - an Isolated Music Score Track, Dolby 2.0 Sound and the Spanish lanuage track and spanish subtitles
. Other than that same stuff is avalible to both region users.

Also another thing region 1 users got that region 4 users did not was an extra 3 years to enjoy the films.
