Some of those are a little dubious to me. No ballads? They just did one this season:


No "talking heads"?


That might explain why they don't show any E&B stuff these days, but it doesn't explain how stuff like that piece slide.

Cookie has become the go to for media appearances, and most of that appears to be for the older audience watching. Elmo's still got a crapload of screentime, and SW didn't miss a beat with him. But Cookie's been gaining popularity steadily the last few years. That's a great sign. Grover to a lesser extent, but his comeback was since the mid 00's. Remember, only Big Bird, Grover (Super Grover, technically) and Abby were Macy's Balloons. There was never an Elmo. Recasting Frank's characters was one of the best things the show did in the past decade and a half. It slowly took some of Elmo's rising since the 90's period popularity off. You all remember, the lack of certain characters due to not yet being recast and lack of appeal of newer characters made to fill those holes pretty much created Elmo's hold on the show for so long.
