They've had Popeye comics pretty much since the dawn of comic books. Popeye premiered in the "Thimble Theatre" newspaper comic strip in 1929, and Popeye comic books have been around since the late 30s. I actually have one from 1959, published by Dell Comics (which have been defunct since the 70s). I also have a Popeye Big Little book from around 1940. It's in rough shape, but it's pretty cool to have in my collection.Animal Jam said:Since when did they have Popeye comics?
As for what comics I'm reading these days, nothing too recent, but a lot of graphic novels and trade paperbacks from years past. My absolute favorite is Alan Moore's The Watchmen, which I discovered back in 1989. It's the "Catcher in the Rye" of comics (and a movie coming in 2006).
I've also been a huge fan of Mike Mignola's Hellboy since the comic first came out in '93. I have all the trade paperbacks collecting his comics, plus a few original issues (I find it easier and cooler to collect the TB's, since you have it all right there at your fingertips).
And lastly, I've been collecting the Fables trade paperbacks. I still have to get the most recent one, but other than that, I'm all caught up. Great stuff. I love Willingham's modern twist on fairytales.
I'm currently working on my own comic book that I'll be self publishing (hopefully) in the next year. So obviously I'll be reading that as well.
