First Mayers earns my respect by turning down one a movie based on one of his old SNL skits, even after threats of being sued, then he does this.

Not only am I not surprised, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a series of cheaply made DTV sequels in the vein of Land Before Time (though it seems that honor went to Open Season). Anything else I could say would be redundant, but honestly, Sony animation is the worst studio since Cambria (the company that came up with the so terrible it's good Clutch Cargo and the not really interesting Three Stooges cartoon series). They have yet to make a movie that doesn't... well, they've yet to make a movie with measurable quality.

And here's another thing that surprises me to no extent...

The film won’t be based on Ron and Judi Barrett’s follow-up kids’ book Pickles to Pittsburgh, but will use an original idea.
Where do I begin?

Can anyone tell me, with the exception of Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter, has there EVER been a sequel to a kid's movie based on the actual sequels to the book series? Come to think of it, the first one wasn't even based off the original book and used an "original" idea as well.

You know what third party CGI family comedy deserves another movie?

Despicable Me. maybe not so much a sequel, but I definitely think a well crafted prequel would work. Despicable Me: Gru's Rising. That has so much potential.

^Despicable Me is actually getting a sequel, as well as an attraction at Universal Studios Orlando.

Sweet! Maybe they can manage to have some merchandise this time I don't have to win out of crane machine. Seriously, every store in the country should have had little Minion figures. Even blind box vynal minions would've done pretty well. I don't think there's anyone who didn't love those little things, even if they didn't like the movie.

On the subject of Sony pictures...

This film sounds like an enjoyable concept and all, not crazy about the voice cast, and I wonder what Tartakovsky's role in the project is, and if he can get Sony to release a good movie for a change. I really feel bad about Symbiotic Titan, and I always really liked Tartakovsky's work (especially Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack)....
