Some time in the 70's, a pilot for a cartoon sitcom called "Carlton" came on. It gave a face to the unseen character, Carlton the Doorman from the show "Rhoda."

The premise of the pilot was rather morbid and I can understand why it didn't catch on. The neighbor's dog died while Carlton was watching him, so he tries to make his cat look like the dog and fool his neighbor. Needless to say, Carlton's plan did not exactly go smoothly.

That's really the only cartoon pilot I can recall, but there are numerous short lived cartoons that come to mind.

I've got a couple...

Jay Ward also did three other pilots that never got anywhere. I don't remember exactly what they were called but one of them was a frontier scout that had Daws Butler doing a Gary Cooper impression. The character also resembled Cooper. The second cartoon was about a big dog that was kind of a Lassie parody, only the dog didn't rescue anyone, but rather got them in trouble. The third one I don't recall at all... unless it was the one you already talked about, Rah Rah Woozy.

Then there were the Marx Brothers projects:

First, Filmation hired me to write an animated Marx Brothers feature! I was about 20 pages into a script that I was calling "Malarkey", when the plug got pulled. The rights to the various brothers are each controlled by their own separate estates and the deal with one or more of them fell through.

Then, in the late 80's, ABC thought they had acquired the rights to the Brothers Marx and were developing a Saturday Morning series with them (they couldn't find a worse time slot for it). Along with George Atkins, who incidentally wrote a lot for Jay Ward, I was to be involved. But this project fell apart for the same reason as the Filmation feature.

That's all for now!

I believe they were Hawkeye, Fronteer scout and Fang the Wonder Dog. I also know of one called "Ragnorak the Chicken" about a viking they didn't even write.

Ah, you just shook it out of my memory banks... It was "Hawkear, Frontier Scout" and he was a kind of Radar from M*A*S*H character that had incredible hearing... supposedly, but then that was the joke. He would think he heard something coming, then get run over by something from the other direction.

And the other one was indeed Fang, the Wonder Dog.

I thought this thread was about animated shows that were planned but never made (at least not as a full series), but many people have been mentioning shows that were cancled after two seasons.

Anyway, I would like to say that I wish the Austin Powers series would have been made. Back when the second Austin Powers movie was made, I kept thinking that an animated series based on Austin Powers should be made.

I would also like to mention a few shows that were planned but not made:

One was a spin-off from Hey, Arlond called The Pataki's, which was to star Helga and her family, but they would be older. On this show, Arnold would have moved away, but Helga would frequently try to write a letter to Arnold, only to chicken out and not mail it. Craig Bartlett originally wanted it to air on Nick at Nite, but was turned down due to it not fitting in with the shows format of showing reruns of classic shows (of course, it would fit in now, considering that Nick at Nite has been showing new programs), and when pitched to Nickelodeon, the programmers thought thta this show was too dark for the channel to air.

Another program was a spin-off from Rugrats called The Carmichaels, starring Susies family. I don't know if this is still being considere,d but I would be surprised if this one did get made.

They were also going to make a spin-off based of Angelica going to preschool, and I think she was going to get a baby sister too. So I guess it was a show based on the other pickles.

What about that one cartoon about the baby from Space. I think it was called Space Max or something like that. I enjoyed that show. I would love to see a DVD of it.

Dumb and Dumber came out with a cartoon too. Don't know how many seasons or so. And about Willy the whale. I don't know about that one either. I remember watching some of it but not really like it. But I did like the Dumb and Dumber cartoon.

If you don't mind me asking, what was dark about this show? Also, most of you probably know this but JHC had plans for an animated show called "Bad Day Bob". What the subject is I don't know. Also on Muppet Wiki I found out about Darin McGowan's ideas for a few muppet animated series, and all of them sounded like they would have been great. But JHC didn't want to do animated stuff and turned him down. The animation style was vivid and unique and IMHO American Mayhem looked like the best idea. :sing: :flirt:

Going by what I know, The Pataki's was supposed to take place sometime after Helga had gotten older, and the show was meant to be more adult than Hey, Arnold! It was going to revolve around topics such as Helga's mother, Miriam, trying to take controll of a drinking problem that she was hinted at having on Hey, Arnold! (apparantly, Nickelodeon wouldn't even allow the word "beer" to be mentioned on any of it's shows, so it was only hinted on the show that she had a drinking problem.... though dispite not allowing beer to be mentioned, Nickelodeon didn't cut the Big Mouses "I'll buy you a beer" line in The Muppet Valentine Show, and it did show Looney Tunes cartoons that featured drinking, such as Tobasco Road). I believe that Craig Bartlett wanted to have Helga grow breasts on the show as well.
